Located in the former Convent of Jesus for the Dominican Order of Women and dating back to the 15th century, the Aveiro Museum is also known as the Santa Joana Museum, in homage to Princess Joana, daughter of King Afonso V. Joana joined the convent in 1472 and her life of holiness led her to beatification in 1693.
Inside the museum you can visit the Chapel of Our Lord of the Steps, the Lavor Salon, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Conception, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Alto Choir, the Chapel of São João Batista, as well as numerous paintings, sculptures, sacred art, and the tomb of Saint Princess Joana, a masterpiece of Baroque art.
